School Celebration Assembly - Save the Date Wednesday 9th November
On Wednesday 9th November, we will be inviting parents and families in for a morning breakfast, short version assembly and a ‘Celebration of Learning’. With changes to reporting, it is important to create new and different ways to keep communication current with families and to develop a range of different opportunities for teachers to share learning. During the morning we will hold a breakfast get together followed by a short assembly and a classroom invitation to come and view student work. Students will be excited to be able to present their favourite pieces of writing, maths, science and art with you as work will be displayed in classrooms and across the school.
Country Gold
Country Gold teams headed to Launceston on Friday to compete in the Country Gold competition. All teams worked hard to compete at their very best, demonstrating their ability to work together, show determination and good sportsmanship in all their games. The Hockeyroos continued their winning form while Hockeyburras came second in their division in an extremely tight finish. Football and Netball teams showed real grit, with netball coming close in one game, losing by only 1 point and football won one of their games. Country Gold is one of the best competitions, with students all gaining considerable skill and confidence throughout the event. A huge thanks to coaches, organisers and parents for supporting students.

North West Athletics
The CHSSSA teams demonstrated exemplary representation for our Circular Head community at the North West athletic championships in Penguin. Competing at high level competitions requires athletes to demonstrate resilience, the ability to focus and manage nerves and determination to participate to the best of their ability. Student teams on both days, showed these qualities, plus encouragement and enthusiasm in cheering on their teammates during events.
14 CHSSSA students have now reached the finals event, held on Wednesday night. Special good luck to our Forest students, Brooke Russ, Esmay Ollington, Eli Fisher, Tyler Kingston, Blayde Emmett & Barry Garner

Learn to Swim Kinder - Grade 2
As a result of a shortage of swim teachers, the kinder to Grade 2 Learn to Swim program will be run separately from the Grade 3-6 program for 2022. Kinder to Grade 2 will be involved in Learn to Swim which will be run during Week 1 of Term 4. The water orientation program is an essential part our program; building students’ confidence in moving through the water, floating, breathing and early stroke development.
A Message to Families
Over many years, I have accumulated an extensive amount of Long Service Leave. As a result, I will be taking Leave during Term 1, 2023. The position of principal will be advertised early in Term 4, allowing for considerable time to meet with the appointed candidate in establishing a smooth transition into the new year.
We wish all families joy over the holiday time, hopefully you will be able to take some quality time to head off on adventures together. We look forward to seeing students’ beautiful smiling faces at the beginning of Term 4.
Can families please remember to make payment on any outstanding accounts for levies and uniform. Thank you.
Kinder has been very busy this term. Parents and friends came to re-plant our strawberry patch and the kinder students learnt about preparing the garden and planting. On Fridays our buddy class 3/4 Morgan come along to kinder and help us learn all about the zones of regulation and play games that teach the names of all the different emotions and which zone they belong to. Sometimes the 3/4 class help us with our phonic work, learning about sounds. This term we made hot chocolate with marshmallows together when learning about the ‘h’ sound. We have also been learning about number and how smaller numbers make up larger numbers.

Rugby Union in Term 3
This Term in PE the 3-6 classes have been extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn and develop their understanding of the game of Rugby over the course of 4 sessions. Maira Behrendt and Brett Kershaw as well as other assistant coaches from Tasmanian Rugby Union delivered our school the ‘Get into Rugby’ program. This program was purposeful, fun and challenging for our students as they engaged in a variety of drills and games that developed their skills in passing the ball, making tries and safely tackling.

In 1/2B and 1/2 W, students are learning “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” in Japanese. Over the last few weeks, we have focused on learning how to say “fruits” in Japanese and to incorporate some games and hands on activities. A Japanese game called Fruits Basket is their favourite game so far.
This week, students will complete a quiz panel and bring it home. They will ask you “Kore wa nani?” which means “What is this?” in Japanese. Please guess a fruit from the outline that the students drew and play it at home as well. Then, they will identify the fruit in Japanese.

Japanese Calligraphy
At the end of term 2, Students from Grade 3 to 6 learned to write “とら(tora)” with Japanese Calligraphy. “Tora” means Tiger in Japanese, and 2022 is the year of the tiger in the Japanese Zodiac.
Well done to Arya Walters, Isabella Korpershoek and Layla Thorp! Your beautiful calligraphy writing represented Forest Primary School and participated in the Calligraphy Competition in August.

Last Friday our community garden members began work on our vegetable garden, they look amazing! If you would like to be involved please let us know!

Forest Primary School Parents and Friends Association together with the staff and students are looking for motivated volunteers who would like to be involved in establishing a community vegetable garden at our school.
Our students love being involved in growing and tasting fresh produce, but class time is limited so upkeeping something like this is difficult for the school. Weekends and holidays also make it extremely difficult to keep on top of the maintenance required so to achieve a successful garden we need you “the community” to share your love of gardening and growing good food to work in partnership with our staff and students.
If this is something you would like to be a part of, please contact Lynne van Norden 0438 365 933 or email forestprimarypandf@gmail.com
We are heading into the perfect time of year to get stated with Spring just around the corner so the sooner we can get something happening the better.
We look forward to hearing from you.
